C. Marquina received her university degree and PhD in Physics at the University of Zaragoza (Spain). After postdoctoral stays at the University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and at the University of Birmingham (U.K), working on magnetic properties of rare earth intermetallics and high magnetic fields, she joined the Institute of Materials Science of Aragon (ICMA), joint institution of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Zaragoza. At present she is Research Professor at this institution. For many years, the group was involved in the research of magnetic, magnetoelastic and electronic properties of manganese oxides and the study of Giant Magnetorresistance (GMR) applications. Her current research interests are the magnetic properties of nanoparticles for biomedical and life-sciences applications, mainly those aspects concerning drug delivery, magnetic hyperthermia and contrast agents for MRI, as well as the development of biosensors. Other applications regard the use of particles in agronomy and plant research (specifically for the delivery of different substances within the plant and for the detection and control of pathogenic fungi).
